Drop any bare 3.5″ or 2.5″ SATA drive into this Vantec NexStar GX and it becomes a fast USB-C external drive. The interface is USB 3.1 Gen 2 — 10Gbps, double the bandwidth of the usual USB 3.0 enclosure — with UASP support so a good SSD or a modern HDD is not throttled by the bridge.

The chassis is aluminium rather than plastic, which matters on a 3.5″ drive: it pulls heat off the drive and damps vibration instead of trapping and rattling. Good for a backup target, an archive drive, or pulling data off drives you keep on the shelf.

Includes the 12V power adapter — a 3.5″ enclosure is useless without one.

🔌 Type-C on the enclosure end; both a C-to-C and a C-to-A cable are supplied, so it plugs into an older USB-A laptop too
🔌 Speeds above USB 3.0 need a host port that is actually USB 3.1 Gen 2 — on a Gen 1 port it falls back to 5Gbps
🔌 Drive is not included — this is an empty enclosure
🔌 3.5″ drives need the supplied 12V adapter; 2.5″ drives do too, as this model does not run off bus power
